Winter jewel tones

I like wearing jewel tones in the winter, but have not incorporated them much this season. After seeing some inspiration from Stylin in St. Louise  and hi sugarplum, I decided to it was time to bring them back into my winter attire.

Hot pink and navy

Navy is a great neutral that pairs nicely with brights. One of my favorite brights to pair with navy is hot pink.

More summer touches

Happy Friday!

Today I'm sharing another look that I've made more summer appropriate with a bright colored blouse and peep toe booties. It's very hard to stay cool and look summer appropriate in an office that calls for conservative business wear, but with a few switches your basic dark suits can be worn year round. A bright colored blouse or accessory and lighter shoes are one of the easiest switches to make. What are your tricks for summer work wear?

Did you know that I have some great summer pieces listed in my Poshmark closet?  Come check them out and make me an offer- no reasonable offer is refused. I have a cute white Banana Republic fit and flare skirt that would make someone a great summer piece, a cute cardigan that would look great over this sundress, and this fabulous Loft leopard pencil skirt that all need a good home.

Bright and floral

I finally had a day at work suitable for wearing a skirt. Of course I chose a pencil skirt. It's my go to choice for the office, but outside of work, I love a full midi or aline skirt. I had this top and skirt combination in my head last year and never got around to wearing it. This top has an open back that's not suitable for my office so I also threw a cropped black blazer over it. And who would have thought that you could find a stunning pair of statement earrings at Tuesday Morning? for around $6? I'll let you in on a little secret. I rarely never pay more than $10 for a pair of earrings. I love costume jewelry and the cheaper, the better. This ring is a DIY from a vintage clip on earring. I just cut the clip off and glued it  to a ring base from the craft store.

Can't please them all

The title of this post was the result of a comment I just received. Someone said they had not been enjoying the pants and sensible shoes looks I've been posting and hope to see more skirts. It doesn't really bother me, it just goes to show- you can't please them all. It also shows that this person may only be looking at pics and not reading. If you truly follow and read, you know I've had tendonitis in my foot and high heels cause it to flare up so I've been wearing flats for a couple of weeks to heal my foot. I'm not a fan of flats either but I share what I REALLY wear, not a fairy tale made up outfit just for a blog post. You've probably also heard me say before that some days at work aren't real practical for skirts and I've had a lot of those days lately. I have to save skirts for Sundays during these times.

Speaking of Sundays, I wore this to church a couple of weeks ago. I've had this dress for four years. Sometimes plain solids get boring to me. I was inspired by Extra Petite to add a scarf. I've also had the idea for pops of pink since last year. Finally got to put the two together. I'm also wanting to wear this with my floral pumps, but you know that tendonitis thing is in the way right now.

Here's how I've worn this in the past:

If you are new to my blog, welcome! I share mostly work related attire with some casual and semi- casual thrown in here and there. Thanks for stopping by and following.

The silver shoes were a last minute decision. I had originally planned to wear black pumps but then I thought about the silver shoes and decided they would go nicely with the grey blazer. I'm glad I decided on them, even though I got a strange look from security at my office building. Then again the same guy was looking at my "field" footwear the next day, so maybe he has a shoe or foot fetish.

I know I'm always vague about work but it's a policy to not discuss or list our place of work on social media, so I keep the details off the blog. I know that I've referred to field attire before, and while I can't explain it's purpose, let's just say it's functional but not fashionable so you will never see it here.  Curiosity is killing you , isn't it?

I have been obsessed with black, white and a pop of color, and for a couple of days that color was hot pink. This outfit is a combined inspiration from J's Everyday fashion and a Banana Republic ad. I already had the skirt and when I purchased the shirt and shoes from BR, I knew that at least once they would be paired with the skirt. The jacket makes it more appropriate for my office environment.
